Parteck® – excipients with unique properties
Parteck® SI belongs to our Parteck® product family of excipients with unique particle properties developed within our Functional Particle Engineering® concept. This concept comprises a number of proprietary technologies which allow us to offer specialty excipients with outstanding functionalities especially for the design of solid dosage forms.
Parteck® SI: Excellent compressibility
In addition to its high dilution potential, Merck’s spray-dried, directly compressible Parteck® SI demonstrates excellent compression properties compared to standard crystallised sorbitol. Thus, tabletting with Parteck® SI requires lower compression forces and reduces stress on the tabletting equipment while reliably delivering the tablet hardness you want. Using Parteck® SI, formulators can even work with active ingredients that themselves have little or no compressibility without compromising tablet quality.
High adsorption capacity and stability
Thanks to its unique structure, Parteck® SI has an outstanding ability to form ordered mixtures with other solid substances and to effectively bind the active ingredient. The filamentous and porous surface is able to firmly adsorb especially smaller API particles – resulting in more homogenous powder blends, more uniform content and less dust during manufacture.
Low tablet hygroscopicity – and more
Tablets manufactured with Parteck® SI show much slower water uptake than tablets made with standard sorbitol. Its outstanding features – including good flow and excellent mouthfeel – make Parteck® SI the right choice for sugar-free chewables, effervescent tablets and lozenges. In addition to our Parteck® SI 400 grade suitable for most applications, we offer several special grades of Parteck® SI with varying particle sizes and qualities designed to meet your applications’ specific requirements.
